Green Energy Park Coming to Northwest Florida
Seven Northwest Florida counties submitted “Request for Information” site submissions before last week’s deadline, said Cristie Kedroski, a spokeswoman for the economic development organization said.
The submissions came from Jackson, Gulf, Walton, Liberty, Wakulla, Gadsden and Santa Rosa counties, she said. She did not know the total number of site submissions, but most were from regional economic development organizations, with one from an individual developer.
Kedroski said several sites were submitted for consideration from Jackson County.
“It could be one. It could be more than one,” Kedroski said Tuesday of the number of sites to be selected.
“This is an exemplary public-private partnership that will bring clean, solar power to many of our state’s public facilities, with minimal up-front investment,” said Brennon Morioka, director of the Hawaii State Department of Transportation. “Now, more than ever before, the state must seek every opportunity to integrate renewable power and energy conservation into public operations. Power purchase agreements like these not only represent thoughtful stewardship of taxpayer dollars, but they provide important, incremental relief to the very real dangers of global climate change.”
